Primary function of the department is to maintain huge infrastructure of Electro-mechanical equipment, Medical Equipment etc through periodical and timely preventive & breakdown maintenance by engaging departmental staff and various AMC contracts. During the reporting period of 2022-23, the department successfully carried all such works skilfully and efficiently without any major incidents affecting the day-to-day functioning of MCC-PGIOSR. The task has become more challenging on account of various construction activities in the campus, which causes regular issues in the infrastructure maintenance. However, the department overcome all such issues with careful and dedicated actions to avoid or minimise problems affecting smooth functioning of MCC-PGIOSR. This has ensured optimum utilisation of these important infrastructure, in turn helping the Hospital administration to achieve successful functioning of MCC-PGIOSR during the period.
In addition to the Primary functions, the department is also involved in ongoing developmental activities like KIIFB Phase I & II projects by providing needful inputs and suggestions to optimise the resources. The Engineering Department also take up various major and minor plan projects through the PMC agency appointed for the same or directly with the approval of competent authorities. These plan projects played a major role in development of MCC-PGIOSR for the past two decades.
The Engineering Department also involved very actively in identifying land required for future developments and road widening during the period and necessary documents for the land acquisition along with DPR (through an external agency, M/s SILK) has been submitted to the Government authorities for further needful action in the matter.
The following team at MCC-PGIOSR is taking care of all works entrusted to the Engineering Department with full dedication to ensure smooth functioning of the MCC-PGIOSR as well as playing a major role in the infrastructure development works.

1. Construction of vertical extension of Nurses Hostel

The Nurses Hostel building in Malabar Cancer Centre-Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research was constructed in 2010 with a plinth area of 909.99sqm and having Ground floor and First Floor with 25 rooms, Kitchen, dining Hall and recreation room and 47 incumbents, admitted in the hostel The nurses strength in the hospital has increased considerably, Malabar Cancer Centre-Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research have no other provision for accommodating the nursing staff in MCC-PGIOSR campus. Nursing students may be provided accommodation in the campus itself citing lack of hostel facility in the locality and the safety of the students moreover it is mandatory to provide accommodation inside the campus for PG students as MCC-PGIOSR has already started PG admission Hence it was decided to extend the nurses Hostel building for further 2 floors. With 1130 Sq m additional area. The room number increased to 68 Nos from 25 and occupancy increased to 163 from 47 with a broad study area , Dining Hall Lift,CCTV,Solaretc Now Construction of vertical extension of nursing hostel building completed and Honorable CM inaugurated the Nurses hostel on 23-12-2022 and occupation started.
2. OP Block renovation (KIIFB Phase-I)
Inaugurated on 23rd December 2022 by Honorable Chief Minister
Renovation of OP block completed in all respect and Honorable CM inaugurated renovated OP Block on 23-12-2022 and OP started functioning The OP Block includes 34 Nos air-conditioned OP Rooms with Pre evaluation room , procedure room Seminar hall, Cafeteria, Hematology recovery room, Waiting area, Sample Collection area, Admission Counter etc Lift facility also arranged in this area for patients
3. Construction of waiting area and resting area for Bystanders [MLA ADS]
Inaugurated on 29th July 2022 by Honorable Speaker
To minimize the crowd inside the Hospital, Malabar Cancer Centre-Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research has restricted the by-standers entry to 2 persons. Moreover Malabar Cancer Centre-Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research is not having a waiting and resting area for by-standers. Also the bystanders are sleeping in the main lobby and corridors of the hospital during night. This makes lot of inconveniences. Considering these difficulties of public the Hon’ble MLA Ad. AN. Shamseer, Thalassery Constituency has granted fund under ADS for the Construction of Building for bystanders waiting area in Malabar Cancer Centre-Post Graduate Institute of Oncology Sciences and Research. Kerala Public Works Department is executing above work and M/s ULCCS Ltd. is the contracting agency for above work The bystanders waiting area includes male & Female resting area , separate toilet units, waiting and resting area with refreshment facility Dining area etc
