The Dental division of MCC started functioning on 01-06-2009 onwards with the objective of providing necessary Dental treatment for our patients in the centre itself at an affordable cost. This division provided a variety of treatment modalities for the oral health and radiation protection of teeth of cancer patients. These included procedures like oral prophylaxis, conservative therapy, dental extractions, occlusal adjustments, therapeutic management of pre-cancerous oral lesions, management of osteoradionecrosis and bis-phosphonates induced osteonecrosis of jaw, pre and post-radiation oral care , pre and post surgical oral care, pre and post chemotherapy oral care, oral biopsies, management of ulcers, bleeding gums, toothache etc.

Apart from these activities, the dental division in association with the community oncology department is actively participating in the early cancer screening camps, school tobacco awareness classes, cancer awareness classes and cancer volunteer trainings. Tobacco cessation facilities are also provided.

Pre & post radiation care of teeth

Procedures like oral prophylaxis, conservative therapy and extractions were used for pre-radiation care, where as fluoride therapy was resorted for post-radiation care. Oral hygiene instructions for better maintenance during treatment were also provided. Post radiation mucositis are managed symptomatically and its severity is reduced through proper oral hygiene measures.

Pre & post surgical oral care

Removal of teeth with very poor prognosis like caries exposed teeth, grade 2 and 3 mobile teeth, tooth with very poor periodontal status are carried out in the pre and post oral care period.

Post chemotherapy oral care

This facilityprovided by the use of smoothing, protecting and antimicrobial oral rinses and ointments. Chemotherapy induced mucositis management is done.
