Community Oncology Department has been regularly organizing early cancer detection camps, awareness classes, exhibition for cancer awareness among public. In addition the Department has conducted tobacco awareness campaign. Tobacco free world campaign among school students. The Department has also conducted cancer screening workshop for nursing staff.  World no tobacco day & National cancer awareness day were observed. 

Anti Tobacco Cell: Anti-tobacco cell was formed on 31-10-2011 under Community Oncology Department of Malabar Cancer Centre. The members of the cell were eminent personalities from different walks of life. Teachers, Journalists, Social activists, writers etc. The main aim of cell is to educate the student community on the  menace  posed by the tobacco use. The executive committee of the cell comprises the following members; Dr. Satheeshan Balasubramaniam as chairman , Dr. Ramachandran V as Joint Conveners , Dr . Neethu A.P, Dr . Phinse .M. Philip as member conveners and Mayaor  P Govindan, Dayanandan Master , Chalakkara Purushu, Pradeep Master as executive members.


The formal inauguration of the cell was done by Distict Collector of Kannur Sree. Anand singh IAS on Nov 17th 2011 and a huge memorandum signed by 10,000 school children against tobacco was submitted to the District collector on that occation . Apart from cell members, school children from city high school were also present during the function.
As part of the awareness programmes , cell conducted 2 student leaders training programs on tobacco control for NSS, NCC, Student Police Cadets. World No tobacco day was observed with a 3 day program. On may 29th Work shop on psychological aspect of tobacco use was done and on 30th May 2012, A quiz program for UP & High school children were conducted . On the last day , 31st Mayan anti tobacco rally &street play on hazards of tobacco were organized . The first issue of the anti tobacco cells News letter ‘NETHI’ was released on 31st May by P.P Saseendran an eminent Journalist.


2nd issue of ‘NETHI’ News letter was released in October at a function held at Usman Memorial School in Mahe by eminent writer Mr. Ragavan in connection with the cancer day, a painting competition for school children was conducted at MCC as renewed artist Karunakaran Master inaugurated the competition .


The 3rd issue of the Anti tobacco cell News letter ‘NETHI’ was Released by District Panchayath President Prof. K.A SARALA at a function organized at Krishnamenon Memorial womens College Kannur.
